Building Collapse in Anambra
Disaster struck at Ndiagu in Idemili North Local
Government Area of Anambra.
A two-storey building collapsed according to
reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Three artisans in the building died immediately.
Also according to an eyewitness three other
persons were injured severely in the collapse and
were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Those that rushed to the scene of the incident
and assisted in the rescue mission included the
commissioner of police in the state, Hosea Karma
and the Divisional Police Officer in Ogidi, Hassan
Mr Karma while speaking in an interview
described the death of the artisans as
“unfortunate and untimely” urged the people in
the area to take heart and prayed for the repose
of the souls of the dead. He also said the corpses
of the deceased had been taken to Iyi-Enu
According to NAN, Chuka Onubogu who is known
as the President-General of Ogidi community,
attributed the collapse to substandard building
He also appealed to contractors and those
involved in building projects to ensure that
genuine materials were used, to avoid a repeat of
Meanwhile, officials of the Synagogue church are
currently facing trial for the collapse of the church
building in Lagos.
The SCOAN Trustees, the two engineers, Messrs
Oladele Ogundeji and Akinbela Fatiregun and their
companies, Hardrock Construction and
Engineering Company and Jandy Trust Limited
were last month arraigned before Justice Lateef
Lawal-Akapo on 111-count charge for their
involvement in the collapsed building.
